Skäne room

Skåne

Skåne (German and old Dutch: Schonen, Latin: Scania) is a landscape in the far south of Sweden. The landscape borders the landscapes Halland and Småland in the north and the Blekinge and Baltic Sea landscape to the east. Skåne originally belonged to Denmark, but was ceded to Sweden at the Peace of Roskilde in 1658 together with Blekinge and Halland. Skåne is connected to Denmark by the Sont Bridge. The main cities are Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg and Kristianstad. The town of Ystad is known for the books of Henning Mankell. The name Skåne is pronounced Skone. This name was also used in Dutch (as well as Skonen), but has become inuse there.
